The "I Remember Mike Richard" challenge

It seems to me Mike has been the leading a lot of these discussions. In this role he gets to point out many of his great feats (theatrical and atheletic). I thought perhaps it's time for people to share their memories of Mike Richards and his exploits.

I recollect he was Mr. Dougherty favorite boy at Merriam Avenue School. (Heavens, he seemed ancient then and I know I'm now probably his age!) I managed to beat Mike for 6th grade class president by one vote -his! I know there are many of you who have Mike stories. I sure would like to hear more about the dog and cat theatrical story. I think that happened just as I arrived in Merriam.

So let's get some of those stories out there!

  1. You beat me by one vote in sixth grade? You also ticked me off in seventh grade, when I had a huge crush on you, but you decided that Bill Rosselli would make a better boyfriend than me.

What goes around comes around, because Cheri Coe beat you by one vote for high school homecoming queen. (I "counted" those votes.) Mess with me and my political ambitions, will ya? ;-)

And I don't recall being Pryor Edward Dougherty's "favorite boy." Makes me a little uncomfortable, to tell you the truth...

P.S. -- My ego will be tremendously deflated if no one else adds anything to this thread.

  2. How can we Halsted St. School kids add anything? I'm sure you were at your apex of embarrassing in junior high!

  4. Peggy,
I wasn't narrowing the comments to just Merriam Avenue! Heaven knows Mike was out in front from Merriam to Halsted and then on to NHS!

  5. Mike,
You had a crush on ME?! You should have been more obvious as I am generally oblivious. As you will find out with your grands, there is NOTHING meaner in the animal kingdom than a 7th grade girl. Not Black Mamba, not Monitor Lizards. Trust me. My years teaching middle schoolers confirms this!
You did get back at me at homecoming though. So now we're even. . . unless there's some other underhanded enterprise you aren't confessing. . .

  6. I was only kidding about homecoming queen. I had nothing whatsoever to do with tabulating those votes. Besides, Cheri won that race in a rout, didn't she?

  8. Well Jane, I mean Maggie, what a coincidence Mike and you at our study hall table. I remember solving all the worlds problems during that study hall. I don't remember which grade. Occasionally sharing and copying home work. Oh that's right Mike, we did that! Also Brian B & Alex. I have only good memories of everyone!
