Well, THIS is exciting. I got home from work tonight, checked my home mailbox, and, lo and behold, there was the VERY FIRST reply, check included for 2 people, for the Newton High Class of 1974 and Friends Reunion. And where and whom did it come from? Well, let’s make this a quiz:
Hints ...
1) Amazingly, the reply is from a Far West state. (How is that possible? The reunion invitation/reply form e-mails went out at 5 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, and I receive a U.S. Postal Service snail-mail reply from this person’s state on Thursday afternoon? Wow.)
2) The person’s first initial is S.
3) The person was the lead, opposite me, in a grammar school theatrical production.
4) Last clue: It’s someone who, I’m pretty sure, has never been to a reunion before (which has me feeling pretty gratified that I tracked him/her down).
The first person to mention his/her name correctly on this blog MAY win a prize on July 25 (the person who actually replied cannot enter an entry in this quiz, because that would be sorta cheating). But, the person who did reply WILL be getting a prize, anyway ... maybe two prizes, one for first reply, and possibly another for coming the farthest (though I’m certain there’ll be some stiff competition for the latter). Again, wow.

Is that person's last name White? I'll make a fool of myself and take wild guesses for the lure of a prize!
ReplyDeleteYou are WRONG, Montana breath! (Who's S. White, anyway?) But thanks for playing. Sorry, no lifetime supply of Turtle Wax as a parting gift. Next?...
ReplyDeleteShirley Dykstra
ReplyDeleteGreat guess, and a lot better than Peggy's answer, but not the correct answer. I believe Shirley is in Michigan, not exactly "Far West." [Annoying buzzer sound for Deb Salza!] Who's next?

ReplyDeleteAnother great guess, but Pennsylvania -- where Sabrina resides -- is not the Far West, either. And Sabrina has been a reunion quasi-regular over the years ...

ReplyDeleteHow many guesses do we get? I like prizes. Not much participation. I was tossing back and forth from my first guess to my next guess. So this is really like my first guess. You said grammer school.... I've not seen Sue Reiser since we graduated and have often wondered where she was.
ReplyDeleteSue is it you? Hope to see you soon!
Dammit, Deb - you stole MY next guess, if we were allowed more guesses...
ReplyDeletebut Andrea Harmon has another guess - it's Scott Conkling.
Do we have a winner yet, Mike?
Double buzzer sound. Bah! Bah!
ReplyDeleteNOT Sue Reiser (but best guess yet, since she's in California). We have her e-mail, so she got an invitation, but Sue told me months ago that it might be hard to make it to New Jersey this summer all the way from San Diego.
And NOT Scott Conkling, who is in Florida. We have his e-mail, too, though I haven't heard from him in this entire reunion-planning process this time.
You're getting warmer, though. (I'd say limit your guesses to one every other day, just to give as many people as possible a chance.)
OK Mike, I'm going to take a guess and say Sue Lenington? Although I haven't made it to all of our reunions, I don't remember seeing her at the ones I did make it to!
ReplyDeleteWE HAVE A WINNER! Susan Lenington Soares lives in Nice, Calif., and was the FIRST paid reply. Ellen Annunziata VanSkiver nails it. Susan played Rag Doll, opposite my brilliant portrayal of Teddy Bear, in a Merriam Avenue School theatrical production. She told me a few months ago that over the years she had never considered coming back much to Newton and Sussex County, which her husband has never seen, but the 35-year reunion seemed like a perfect time. They were actually considering taking their RV cross-country, but in a recent e-mail said she thought better of it and will be coming via air, and meeting up with us and other friends and family in the region while they're here.
ReplyDeleteYeah for me! I feel like I'm on a game show and just won the big bucks!! I did win big bucks, right
ReplyDeleteMike? What I really want to know is whether anyone has any pictures of this theatrical production where Mike is a Teddy Bear? (of course we all know he's a teddy bear for real!) That's great that Sue will be coming from California! I really think this is going to be an awesome reunion!! I'm really looking forward to it.(even more so now that I know I might win a prize!)
We'll have to think about the prizes, but surely, it'll more likely be little bucks instead of big bucks:

I guess Sue Lenington.
ReplyDeleteMan, Tommy, you were thiSClose!
ReplyDelete(P.S. - My groin hurts tonight.)

ReplyDeleteWhile I too suffer from CRS like David, I find that I can remember this 35 year old stuff better than . . . oh say, what's that person in the next office's name?!
ReplyDeleteGreat Prom picture Peggy! Thanks. I'm one of the "NOT" together couples. . . unless you count Christmases and birthday for grandkids.
Great to listen in (with or without Mike's sound effects!) Maggie (aka Janie Cafasso)
