I guess I love being where nature still has wild places, the sun shines most of the time, and there is always water nearby. What about you? What makes you call your state and town home?

Why Do Live Where You Do?

That's beautiful. I love palm trees. But I don't necessarily put Florida and palm trees together in my mind-set.
ReplyDeleteI live in New Jersey because of history, comfortability, family, and mostly work, but more and more, I'm yearning for different places.
I love Las Vegas, but could never live there. Friends say I glow there, like a pregnant woman. But living in southern Nevada would certainly remove the aura that brings me there once or twice a year.
We've often talked about retiring to Arizona, where we've been once or twice. But who do we really know in Arizona?
Grandchildren changes many things in one's life. All of a sudden, upstate New York is looking like paradise.
Time will tell.
Thanks for your view, Maggie. I do love the water...
ReplyDeleteThe reasons I came to Montana (for college) are the same reasons I stayed (to raise a family and pursue a career). I love the mountains, friendly people, extensive recreational opportunities, and western lifestyle.
Missoula is a quirky, eclectic, funky little liberal oasis in a predominently conservative state (of which there are only 6.2 people per square mile). Since it's a university town, there is an assortment of cultural arts: a great community theater, art galleries, and music performances. (I've seen both the Rolling Stones and Elton John in the past 3 years.)
For the most part, I feel settled here (kind of like a pioneer); but I also experience a fair amount of wanderlust - and what with retirement a mere couple of years away, perhaps I'll satisfy that itch! Does anybody have an old VW van???
Maggie...where do you live in FL w/that view?..I live in Boynton Bch, on the east coast of FL.,just south of West Palm Bch, I moved here to be near my Dad ( who has since passed :( and to get away from the ice covered roads(after my VW made 3 spins in the middle of the road in oncoming traffic,I said thats in for NJ for me ! I stayed in FL for a yr then moved to CA after a whim hearing a song by Led Zepplin( whom I saw 3 times in concert).! ah the simpler days
ReplyDeleteI fell in love and had a son (81' )and then decided I wanted to raise him around family,so I moved back to FL..bought a house and the roots started to grow.
When my son turned 18 and moved out i sighed and thought yes,now its my turn, that was short lived because a month later i answered the phone and it was DCF asking me if I could take in my 3 great nephews to stay with me,what was supposed to be a 1 yr but turned into 9 ...I have been totally blessed with a very fullife and still in FL ( I must agree with Mike I have tow awesome grandbabies and couldnt think of moving away permantly.. I must add that part of my heart is in NJ and I will probably live there 1/2 the year soon.
I live in Chicago because both my sons are here and because I love the city for its beauty, vibrant arts scene, and many ethnic restaurants. You can eat your way around the world here! (And then there's the baseball - nearly always a heartbreaker, but at least my team won a World Series in the modern era.) I am happiest living in cities, as long as I can go for walks in the countryside and touch base with the earth now and again.
ReplyDeleteMike, have you been to Reno and Lake Tahoe? I too glow like a pregnant woman while in Vegas.Last year we did Tahoe and Reno and were blown away by the natural beauty and i was still glowing. It is now on my list of retirement destinations.
