Senior Prom 1974

This is just one of the many tables of seniors at the prom that year. I actually can name all of the people in this photo - and I will also take credit for doing a little "match-making" for the couple to my immediate right (who are still happily married after all these years). Now, why we all look so serious is a question I cannot answer - unless we all had a premonition about the prom venue burning to the ground shortly after our event was held there. Does anyone else remember a debutante ball being held there (downstairs) on the same evening? I also remember hosting the prom party afterwards, and yes - my parents were vacationing in the Carribean at the time - how convenient! Do any of you have teenagers now? I am a librarian in a public high school, and our prom was just held last weekend. Things haven't changed much.

  1. Birchwood Manor in Whippany ... I remember it well. Because of the February snowstorm that day, we weren't sure if the prom would go on, or be canceled at the last minute. What's striking is that the boys' hair, over all, is longer than the girls' hair. (You shoulda stuck with that Tommy McDonald guy, Peggy!)

  2. Peggy, help out a guy who moved in '72. I recognize faces, but can't put names with them.

  3. I’ll help ya, Bill. From left to right, top to bottom:
Vince Perrella and Jeanne Wershing Perrella.
Tom McDonald and Peggy Dolan (not McDonald).
Craig Sally Stevens and Jane Cafasso Stevens (still Stevens, but not with Craig; and no longer Jane, and probably no longer Sally ... man, the years and the names do fly by! That’s an episode of “Soap,” if there ever was one.)
Joey Van Skiver and Ellen Annunziata Van Skiver
Mike Streeter and Denise Keck Streeter

  4. My teenage daughters crack up over this picture. I wish I still had the hair though. My girls tel l me I now have a sixhead instead of a forehead. Joe,Craig and I all played for the Andover Indians little league team. We were Sussex County champs in 1967. You Newton boys couldn't touch us Buzzy! Craig got the nickname when Mr.Albora called him Sally for throwing like a girl. It stuck.

  5. Tom, I want to know where your boutonniere is? All the other guys have one! Peggy, what did you do with Tom's boutonniere?

  6. Ellen, I really don't know. I can only assume she thought I already looked too much like Tiny Tim and didn't want me to break out with a version of Tip Toe Through The Tulips by giving me a flower.

  7. Tom, since Diane doesn't use the computer, she asked if I would tell you hello, send you lots of love, and can't wait to give you a big hug if you are planning on attending the reunion! She also said she might bring you a box of candy (jujy fruits) or something like that.....whatever it was that the 2 of you used to open up, take the red ones out and eat them and then sell them to the rest of us at the movie theatre!

  8. Ellen, lots of love right back to Diane! I can't believe she's giving away our movie secrets! I promise everyone we never did anything unsanitary to the food. I had so much fun working there I talked my daughter into applying at the local theatre when she was looking for a high school job. Diane and I were instrumental in Denny Virga - Kathy Rankin romance. I hope they are still together. I could also make poor Brenda Tichnor turn purple with embarrasment with my stupidity. Good Times1
