... when you weren't in school?
For my eleventh birthday, I was given the gift of horseback riding lessons. It didn't take long for me to get hooked. - and then I was fortunate that my parents could afford a horse for me to ride. So, while we were in high school, I spent every afternoon in the car with my mother, going to Homestead Stables in Sparta to exercise my horse (and prepare for weekend horse shows). I absolutely loved every minute of it - just look at that concentration face!
In my adult life, my hobbies became a little more diverse with soccer, ice hockey, and kayaking (among others). But sadly, and perhaps ironically (considering I live in Montana) I have never again owned a horse. On a teacher's salary - who could afford one?
So, what was your passion in high school? How did/do you spend the majority of your free time, then or now?
This has nothing to do with "my passion" (probably baseball), but you mentioned Homestead Stables in Sparta. I'm pretty sure, when I was 5, I attended a Sunday afternoon horse show there with my parents. It was my first brush with celebrity: Mitch Miller (of "Sing Along With Mitch" fame), who had a home in Sussex County, I want to say in Branchville, and whose kids were equestrians, was there ... and Mitch Miller touched my shoulder!
ReplyDeletesoooo Mike...why r u touched in the head then...;)
ReplyDeleteWell lets see...I went to elementary school in Sparta and swimming or ice skating on Lake Mohawk was a passion..i also had a horse and 4H was a good part of my life...i remember the 1st time Joan Deganhart went bareback on my horse...i'd be surprised if she ever rode again!
ReplyDeleteMy parents took me to Europe and Africa and installed the travel bug in me..which is why I feel I roamed like a gypsy ( course I do have Hungarian blood in me)venturing stints in CA and CO then finally settling in FL.
Band 'in-school' played a big part of my life 'out-of-school'(which ill go into in more detail in the band section when i am not babysitting my grandson ...( of course when boys came into the picture ALL other passions flew out ;)
